So I picked up this beautiful stetson hat for a song at a thrift store: a mere ten bucks! It fit wonderfully, was solid and sturdy and sleek... except for an absolute hideous, clunking, over-sized macrame band. That had to go. I pried it off and got me some nice copper-colored cobblestone-print felt and sewed together a new band using copper thread, then wired together these together these gears, holding them in place with copper headpins. Normally I DON'T go in heavily for gears when I do steampunk; I feel it's overdone and cliche to just slap a bunch of non-functioning gears on something to call it steampunk. However, I feel that in this case it fits well, as the decorations on hatbands often strongly resemble gears in shape and size. The felt portion of the hatband has been sprayed with a leather and suede protector.
Oh, well, this is it here. I do have leftover bits and pieces though that I am considering turning into something to go along with it, perhaps a collar or armband.
