Why I Cook: My Wife's Fight With Food Allergies Food is universal.  It spans cultures and continents and countries.  We treat our friends and family to lunch.  We take clients and strangers out to dinner.  We buy treats for our pets, and maybe sneak them a little of what we're snacking on.  We feed the bird in the park, the fish at the ornamental pond, the monkeys at the zoo despite the sign.  Can you imagine anything so alien and ostracizing as somebody who does not eat?

When you cannot eat with others, it gets lonely.  You feel conspicuous and left out.  If you come along, you have that terribly awkardness of watching others eating.  If you don't, you know you're missing out on social

Out in the open again and a bit nervous, he decided to hang around closer. Many geese were still gathered about due to my feeding them earlier, and I offered them a little more bread to encourage this.
