Description

This year's tweaks to the pumpkinhead masks: I've fancied up my hat a bit, and swapped in a new one for Rachel as well.  The bandannas around her hatband and underneath mine cover up the tacks used to hold them on; in my case, I happened to get a hold of another hat in the style of my purple one that was sadly a bit folded and spindled and I could not get to reclaim its old shape, so I cut away almost all of the brim and tacked it into place so that my hat sits atop it rather than being pinned down itself, lending it more freedom to move.  The biggest change here is in the eyes, though; I purchased a no-face one-way mirror mask and cut it up, placing pieces behind my eyes and Rachel's eyes and eyebrows to allow us to see out without being seen.  A few pieces of gauze are in front to better mask the presence of the lenses, while the gauze over the mouths and noses is thicker, so that we cannot be seen. Previously the gauze in my mask was quite thick, and I could not be seen but had difficult seeing, while Rachel's was thinner to allow her better sight but at certain angles, especially in direct sunlight, she was visible.  I also used an exacto-knife to add slits into the gauze to allow it to better vent; this worked for Rachel, but I wound up overheating and fogging up, so next year I will need to add more venting to mine, since I tend to get more active often.  I spent much of the parade virtually blind, but somehow muddled through and even managed to keep cavorting and dancing.

Rachel got a whole new outfit as well to go with her mask: A new hat is held in place by cleverly masked thumbtacks beneath the two scarves around the crown.  The fairy costume we got on sale due to it having a number of defects; it also came with a corset and tights, neither of which used here.  There were some pieces missing also.  I fixed the problems with the straps (one was sewn on in the wrong place) and wings (the plastic tubing used to hold them up could not be bent out into an extended shape, so I put wire in instead, and the straps were too tight on Rachel, so I lengthened them).  She added a top, scarf, black skirt, black gloves, and the tights; traditionally we try to cover all skin

For my own costuming, most of it is more familiar, though the boots are relatively new, and the watch I've made modifications to, as my old watch finally gave up the ghost.  I also added my blue leather hatband to the classic purple top hat and found a new way of attaching it using a second, stripped down hat beneath it, hence the need for the bandanna  underneath to cover it up.
