I am a dabbler. I am a creator. I am a teacher. Among my hobbies are lapidary, carving, sewing, cooking, poetry, short stories, world design, game design, roleplay, photography, graphic manipulation and creation, DJing, bump making, parody writing, remixing, recording parodies, altering and decorating hats and clothes, making walking sticks, staffs, and canes, and generally anything else that comes into my head. I cannot draw to save my life, but I love to read, I love to create, I love to reach out and touch the lives of others, and be touched in turn. I am a husband. I am a father. I am a bird owner. I am student. I am too many things for a brief paragraph to possibly communicate. So come know me, and let me know you. On KoL I am known as the DJ Prima Vera Angelhair.

Over the last couple of years my personal style has really... evolved. I've changed, and I've pushed a lot of my skills to new limits. I keep pushing them farther, learning more, and seeing just what I can do in myriad fields. I enjoy sharing what I learn with others, and hope to both take and give inspiration in the process.

Raccoon Journal 8 - Vinnie is Great!

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 1, 2014, 3:50 AM

Running very late with journals right now; this one is from July 11th!

Still, I am getting pics up, and the season is over.  I saw some amazing things, and some tragic ones.
There were many lovely animals who came in and did not make it, sadly, but many, many more who did,
and who will eventually return to the wild.

The sunburn babies sadly both passed away finally.  The second one really seemed to be doing well,
but crashed on us suddenly.  It was such a shame, but sometimes all you can do is try.

Here is the week in pictures and video.

Let's start out with the one, the only, Bob, and his lovely ladies.

As I noted above, the sunburn babies have sadly passed on. Most of the young Raccoons have moved outside by now,
but a handful are still inside, and we still get some new arrivals in.  We've also had some problems with a few
mysterious illnesses that have been pretty bad for those who caught them, but extra cleaning steps it is
believed are helping to prevent further spreading.

The Ducklings and Goslings are doing quite well.  The younger ducklings are partially outside now,
and there are no geese inside at present.  We've stabilized with two groups of goslings, after the loss
of a few older and injured ones.

There was an interesting story this week with the Possum family; one of them escaped!
Apparently this has actually not been too uncommon; the little ones regularly make a break for it.
The one that got away was found once we knew to look for it, under a table.
It was the brave one, that one that always bares its teeth at people.

Some of our Squirrels, both free and not.  We also have a newly arrived ground squirrel here
that was in pretty bad shape, but would improve in later weeks.

We always have a wide variety of small Birds coming through.  Robins, starlings, finches...
this week I focused especially on mourning doves.  I discovered that they are remarkably
tame and peaceful.  Where the other birds would go into a frenzy to escape me if I went into
the aviary, the doves were hardly bothered at all, and some even would come up to me
to tell me their dish was empty or ask for food.

Vinnie the Turkey Vulture is as friendly as ever.
He's sadly too friendly to ever be released; there is little wrong with him physically,
but mentally he's imprinted on humans and just does not understand
how to be a wild turkey vulture.

And here is one of the newest residents;  this young Red-Tailed Hawk
had surgery for its wing and leg, but it won't ever be well enough to live wild.
It will be trained as a teaching bird.
